ATLANTA, GA — In the heart of Atlanta, a beacon of hope is rising thanks to the leadership of Devonta Sullivan, a former police officer and current leader in the Veterans for America First (VFAF) Vet Force program. Moved by the growing number of families displaced by economic hardship and housing instability, Sullivan has made it his mission to rebuild a local shelter that had fallen into disrepair.
“What we’re doing isn’t just construction,” Sullivan said. “We’re rebuilding dignity. We’re giving people a place to rest, recover, and restart.”
Under his guidance, the Vet Force — a VFAF initiative that empowers veterans, former officers and civilian volunteers, to serve their communities through direct action — mobilized a team to assist with the rebuilding for the Park Ave Baptist Church Shelter. The project has brought together neighbors, veterans, and local businesses, all united by the belief that no one should be left without a roof over their head.
For Sullivan, the project is personal. As a police officer, he saw firsthand the consequences of homelessness and lack of community resources. Now, he's turning his experience along with the VFAF influential platform, into action, proving that service to others doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off.
